Arts in Schools is a way of bringing our community’s wealth of arts resources into the classroom. This program was introduced to the school systems of Gainesville and Hall County in 1980 and was enthusiastically welcomed by students, teachers, parents, and the artists. It is sponsored by The Arts Council, Inc. of Gainesville and Hall County, with the approval of each school system.
We just finished distributing our 2011-2012 Arts in Schools Resource Guide. The Guide helps schools set up an Arts in Schools committee, as well as gives them ideas of which artists to bring to their school!
Centennial Elementary and Myers Elementary are already putting their Guides to great use!
Centennial has booked storyteller Homer “ABE” Sewell to spend a day at the school “edutaining” children with a strong message saying no to drugs, alcohol, tobacco, and violence. Abe also teaches love for country and respect for parents and teachers.
Myers Elementary has booked “Give Peas a Chance” storytelling and puppeteering about the benefits of good nutrition.
The Arts Council proudly presents “Shakespeare on Trial”-a hilarious comedy about the bard and his relevance today!
Shakespeare on Trial is being held on Tuesday, November 15 at 10:00 am at Pearce Auditorium-Brenau University
